DTZI seeks contractor for former Guardian Printworks

The investment manager is offering a £12m contract to a construction firm to build a 150,000 sq ft unit at a site in Trafford Park.

DTZ Investors launched the opportunity on Friday and aims to appoint a contractor to redevelop the former Guardian printworks site by October.

In June 2020, Trafford Council gave DTZ Investors – on behalf of its client the Strathclyde Pension Fund – the green light to start demolition of the 238,000 sq ft Longbridge Road unit, which used to house the Guardian newspaper’s printing press.

That demolition work took place last year.

The new-build scheme will take around nine months to build and DTZI is seeking a contractor that has “proven experience of obtaining BREEAM and WELL Building Standard accreditation under similar projects”, according to tender documents.

Michael Sparks Associates is the planner and architect for the redevelopment. Barry Chinn Associates is the landscape architect.

Savills is the letting agent for the scheme.
