DLA eyes growth following relocation

The architecture firm’s Manchester division has relocated from Albert Square to a 2,000 sq ft office at 86 King Street as it looks to boost its headcount in the coming months.

DLA Architecture’s move to a bigger office will allow it double in size in the North West over the next 12 months as it looks to grow the business in core areas including education and housing, the company said.

Jonathan Knowles, group board director and head of the Manchester office, said DLA has “emerged from an unprecedented year as a well-structured business with reduced overheads and strong cash flow”.

He added: “Having established in Manchester 20 years ago, we already have a firm foothold and reputation for delivering contextual, narrative-led solutions for our clients and close collaboration with our Leeds office allows us to provide a more holistic Northern Powerhouse perspective on regionally significant projects.”

DLA is looking to recruit three more architects in the region this year following the appointment of Gary Wolstenholme in 2020. Wolstenholme joined the company having spent the previous two years as a senior architect at Falconer Chester Hall.

DLA’s North West projects include designing Kings Leadership Academy in Bolton, and the redevelopment of Shot Tower in Chester into housing.

The firm is currently advising on residential schemes comprising more than 13,000 homes.

Avison Young advised DLA on its relocation to King Street and Irwin Mitchell provided legal advice.

Whitaker Horton is the landlord for 86 King Street.
