Developer submits third application for Bacup homes
McDermott Homes has submitted plans for 71 homes in Rossendale’s ‘back meadows’, despite two previous refusals from the council.
Situated on vacant greenfield off Fieldfare Way in Bacup, the developer’s first application for the eight-acre site was refused in December 2019 due to fears of the loss of green space and lack of affordable housing provision.
McDermott Homes withdrew its subsequent application in 2020 as affordable housing provision could not be agreed with the council. The current application is supported by a viability appraisal, whereby the developer is requested by the council to deliver affordable housing elsewhere.
The project would deliver 71 homes to the undeveloped land: 33 three-bedroom and 38 four-bedroom houses, ranging in size from 855 sq ft to 1,265 sq ft.
Every home would have two off-street parking spaces and car charging points.
Each four-bed home would also have a 194 sq ft garage.
An area of open space, with planted trees, shrubs, benches, and areas of grass, would be linked to the existing footpath via a new one.
Pegasus is the scheme’s planning consultant. The project team also includes landscape architect Trevor Bridge, transport consultant DPTC, and arboricultural consultant Godwins.
Rossendale Council’s reference number for the application is 2022/0543.
We don’t need anymore houses in this area as we don’t have the roads to and from Rochdale to Rawtenstall couldn’t cope with the extra cars and the extra families for schools and Drs .

We have no facilities for all these extra people, not to mention the loss of habitat to wildlife.

Madness schools doctors dentist are all overcrowded not to mention the roads that are falling apart sort. Need to sort all that before building more homes and making things worse.

Bacup does not have enough Drs, and school placements to support more housing also we would be losing green space that is well used by local people

In bacup builders have built houses on greenfield sites and dispite planing permission have spoiled the open views that make bacups hillsides unique ie the famous bullring that was visible from the blackthorn area, yes build affordable housing but on brown field sites ie maiden lodge site. Lets keep bacups beautiful hills visible for generations to come!!

Leave it be we can’t move as it is for parked cars and when we get bad snow even worse 71 more houses could mean around another 150 cars!!!!!

The site is allocated for housing and would be a great site for the area. Hopefully this one gets through
