Developer Bo Khan dies at 58
The director of Kingsdean passed away after a short illness earlier this month.
Salim Khan, known as Bo, was 58 when he died. Khan leaves behind a legacy of building homes across Cheshire and Manchester.
With his company Kingsdean, he developed The Resident apartments at 2 St John Street in Manchester. Other projects of Khan’s include the redevelopment of Daisy & Toms on the corner of Deansgate and King Street West in Manchester into Bem Brasil Restaurant and apartments. He was also an investor in Bem Brasil.
Khan began his career as a bus mechanic, before joining the property industry. As a developer, he renovated hundreds of terraced houses, many of which were later leased to housing associations. He also delivered multiple executive homes in Cheshire. His work often focused on the area around Alderley Edge, which he also called home.
Mark Hawthorn, chief executive of Landmark Group, was a close friend of Khan’s.
“I knew Bo for around 20 years, having first met when we both doing terraced house deals in the early 2000s,” Hawthorn said.
“We quickly became personal friends, speaking and meeting on a regular basis as well as doing multiple transactions together. When I was recently looking for a plot of land to build a house for myself he sold me one that he had earmarked for himself and we were set to be neighbours,” Hawthorn recalled.
“The last time I saw him, which was only a couple of weeks ago, he was telling me that he was taking it a bit easier now.
“His simple thinking was he could keep active and make more money if he wanted to, yet he didn’t need the money and it would take away from time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Whilst we cannot bring him back, this advice will live with me along with some fantastic memories of a great man.”
David Lathwood, chief executive of Pitalia, also counted Khan as a friend. He praised Khan’s work ethic.
“If anybody is entering the property industry and wants a role model in terms of creating a business and creating a career – Bo Khan is a fantastic example,” Lathwood said. “He was entirely self-made. He was courageous in what he did. And, above all, he was a lot of fun to be around.”
Khan leaves behind his wife, Karen, and four children.
