David Wilson’s Crewe scheme deferred for second time

Cheshire East Council is making the housebuilder wait for a verdict on its application for 149 homes off Sydney Road.

Featuring a mixture of apartments and two-, three-, and four-bedroom houses, David Wilson Homes wants to create the development on an 11-acre site east of Crewe.

However, the council opted not to approve the plans yesterday, seeking a further design review on the proposals.

It is the second time the scheme has gone before Cheshire East’s planning committee.

In June, the authority deferred a decision on the scheme and asked the developer to address concerns raised by local stakeholders.

More than a hundred residents had issued responses to the application, many of which were critical. Crewe Town Council and Haslington Parish Council had also objected to the development.

Areas of concern included safety and traffic issues on Sydney Road and the nearby Crewe Green roundabout. The layout of the scheme, particularly the location of a proposed play area, was also criticised.

As a result, David Wilson went away and tweaked the plans ahead of yesterday’s meeting, including enlarging the play area and relocating it into a more central position.

The plans were tipped for approval ahead of the meeting but the decision went against officers’ recommendations.

This looks like DW are wanting to build yet another eyesore with the Crewe boundary. The aesthetics say “ugly cheap housing”. This is yet another blot on the landscape for everyone to see when entering or leaving the town. It’s a disgrace and should be rejected, full stop.
