Dalata eyes 214-bedroom Manchester hotel expansion

The Irish hotel operator wants to create a nine-storey extension totalling 264,500 sq ft linked to its existing facility off Outwood Lane, next to the city’s airport.

Dalata Hotel Group has lodged plans with Manchester City Council for the expansion, which would increase the capacity of the 365-bedroom Clayton Hotel by a net total of 214 bedrooms.

The Leach Rhodes Walker Architects-designed project would result in the loss of two existing rooms due to the reconfiguration of the building, with a total of 216 bedrooms to be created.

There would be an additional 104 double and 112 twin bedrooms provided at the site, as well as increased ground-floor catering space to accommodate the extra guests.

Due to changes to the layout of the site, the number of car parking spaces available would be reduced to 255 from 320 bays.

Dalata hopes to build on the success of the Clayton Hotel, which usually operates at above 90% occupancy, through the scheme, according to a design and access statement.

Manchester Airports Group is advising on the plans. The project team also includes Sustainably Built, The Environment Partnership, Frank Fox & Associates, Patrick McCaul Environmental Consulting Engineers, and Sandy Brown.

Tom McNamara & Partners is the project manager. Cunningham McLean is leading on interior design.
