Cumbria Vision appoints political advisor as new chairman

Economic regeneration agency Cumbria Vision has appointed Roger Liddle, principal adviser to the President of the European Commission, as its new chairman.

Liddle will head the 14-strong board of directors and work with partner organisations within Cumbria, as well as acting as an ambassador for regeneration to regional and national audiences.

Liddle was born and educated in Carlisle and is a former member of the cabinet of the EU trade commissioner and special adviser to the Prime Minister on European issues.

Current chairman, David Brockbank, will step down after completing his three-year tenure in December.

Bryan Gray, chairman of the North West Development Agency, the sponsor and parent organisation of Cumbria Vision, said: "I am confident that Roger's extensive experience, skills and knowledge make him an excellent choice for pushing forward our vision for the future economic development of Cumbria."

Liddle added: "This appointment gives me a chance I've wanted all my life. To give something back to the community that gave me so much. To work as chairman of Cumbria Vision with all our partners on an economic strategy that is going to create a sustainable prosperity that offers new life chances to all parts of the county, not least the people and communities who feel left behind."
