CTP/Sainsbury’s plan a new look for Neston
A 35,000 sq ft supermarket could be built in Neston town centre if a planning application submitted by developers CTP and Sainsbury's is approved.
As well as the foodstore, the proposed Faulkner Browns-designed scheme would include a new town square, a café, parking for 238 cars, community facilities, and 14 residential units.
The design was drawn-up after Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council identified a decline in Neston's local trade – brought on almost entirely by an estimated leakage of around 70% of the town's expenditure to food stores in neighbouring towns – and issued a development brief.
If planning permission is granted, work could begin in the site later this year, with completion by Christmas 2009.
Neptune Developments and Booths are challenging the decision to pick CTP/Sainsbury's, accusing the council of not sticking to its own selection criteria.
