Cruyff turns to Arndale for first UK store
Dutch sports fashion retailer Cruyff has picked Manchester’s Arndale for its first UK store and is also eyeing further sites in Liverpool and Glasgow.
The brand, named after iconic Dutch footballer Johan Cruyff, has stores in Amsterdam, his birthplace, and Barcelona, where he played and managed for a combined 13 years.
Cruyff has agreed to take the 2,000 sq ft former Kids Foot Locker unit subject to an eight-week fit out, designed by Mono International and BlackHive, due to start at the end of August. Fit-out contractor Kilmal told Place North West it expects the store to be open in November.
Design proposal for new store
The deal, which has yet to be finalised, comes at an uncertain time for the retail market given the negative impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had on footfall.
Metis and Time Retail Partners acted for the Arndale’s owners Intu and M&G Real Estate, and Cryuff was unrepresented in the deal.
In July, the Arndale confirmed a pair of lettings to leisure occupiers Roxy Lanes and Electric Playbox.
Foot Locker increased its existing second store in Arndale during lockdown and now has two entrances, one inside the mall and one on Market Street.
