Crowther on board for Tatton Estate

President of the British Council for Offices and formerly a senior figure at Bruntwood, Pete Crowther joins the Cheshire organisation as chief executive.

Tatton Estate, which spans 5,500 acres including around 400 commercial and residential properties, said the appointment marks the beginning of a bold new chapter, as it looks to deliver the next phase of a 20-year legacy strategy.

Last year saw the launch of Park Gate Village and outline approval for Bluebell Village, a 34-acre development north-west of Knutsford with 250 homes, a care home and a local centre.

As set out by Tatton, Crowther comes with a considerable track record, having been a central figure in Bruntwood’s growth story.

After 26 years with the business, he left the position of chief development officer for Bruntwood SciTech in November 2023, going on to set up HERE Partnership along with his BCO work.

The organisation said that he now takes on a unique role at Tatton Estate – a “living, working landscape encompassing heritage, housing, environment, farming and enterprise” – to help shape a future rooted in purpose, place and people.

“Pete’s appointment is an exciting and pivotal step for the Estate,” said Andrew Rinker, senior executor and trustee of the Tatton Estate. “We’re incredibly proud of what has been achieved in recent years and believe Pete’s vision, values and experience are exactly what’s needed to help us build on that momentum and continue our positive impact into the future.”

The estate said that Crowther’s early priorities will include formalising a clear strategy for the decade ahead and building a high-performing in-house team to help deliver it. His focus will span all parts of the estate – from community and conservation to innovation, infrastructure and customer excellence.

He will also oversee key priorities already underway, including the stewardship and growth of Tatton Estate’s extensive residential and commercial portfolio. Home to nearly 200 families and a mix of national and independent businesses, the estate’s properties include workshops, compounds, retail units and offices in a variety of towns and villages.

Alongside this, he will lead on major projects such as the delivery of Bluebell Village and the expansion of the estate’s woodland and biodiversity initiatives along with other strategic projects.

Crowther said: “Tatton Estate has a rare combination of ambition, integrity and deep-rooted purpose.

“It’s a place that already means a great deal to so many people, and I see my role as helping to build on that, to shape a clear path ahead, listen well and make sure the Estate continues to evolve in a way that feels right for the communities, businesses and landscapes it supports.”

Unfortunately Tatton Estates ignores the current residents of Knutsford when it continues to chase profits by covering as much agricultural land as possible with new houses – normally after only token opportunities for Knufsford residents views.
