Crossfield hires ex-Wates manager Sutton

The Liverpool-based construction firm has expanded its team with the appointment of Iain Sutton, former regional commercial manager at Wates, as its head of operations.

In his new role, Sutton will help to deliver Crossfield Construction’s pipeline of schemes across the education, leisure, private residential and social housing sectors.

He joins the company after 22 years at Wates Group, where he most recently worked in the company’s residential team delivering affordable and market housing projects across the North West and beyond, including the 62-unit Stonebrook scheme in Timperley on behalf of a Trafford Housing Trust joint venture.

He also helped to deliver 300 homes as part of Wates’ involvement with the Sharp Framework on behalf of Flintshire Council.

Sutton is a familiar face to many of Crossfield’s senior team, with directors David Cain, John Paul Cassidy and Lucy O’Connor, as well as group commercial manager Tom Dillon, all having worked alongside him in previous roles.

Michael Macaulay, director at Crossfield Construction, said: “Iain is a highly respected figure in the construction industry, and we are delighted he has chosen to join us at Crossfield.

“As we enter our next stage of growth, it is key that we invest in the right staff and we are extremely pleased to have attracted someone of Iain’s calibre. His knowledge and experience will be invaluable in the delivery of our future pipeline of work.”

Sutton said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Crossfield at such an exciting time for the business. Having worked with many of the senior team previously, coming on board was an easy decision to make.

“I’m impressed at the future order book here and am looking forward to bringing new ideas and knowledge from my previous roles to support the growth of the business.”

Crossfield Construction sits within Crossfield Group, which was founded in 2012 by Cain and Cassidy. It now employs 65 people, many of whom have previously worked at major contractors such as Willmott Dixon, Kier and Vinci.

The company has recently completed a development of 130 residential apartments in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle and is currently building a £2.6m T Levels building at Cardinal Newman College in Preston, among other schemes.

Crossfield Construction is a separate business to Crossfield Exclusive Developments, a private investment vehicle set up by Cain alongside director David Ayem, which is also based in Liverpool.
