Crewe care home set for green light

A 72-bedroom senior living facility on Gresty Road, Shavington, proposed by Liberty Care Developments has been earmarked for approval.

Cheshire East Council’s southern planning committee meets next Wednesday to discuss the plans for a three-storey building which will act as a purpose-built, end of life residential institution designed to meet the healthcare needs of residents, including those with acute or specialist needs.

Avison Young is the planning consultant for the project, which is designed by Warrington-based C Squared Architects.

The site proposed is within the Basford West area, at the north west corner of the roundabout between Crewe Road, Gresty Road and Jack Mills Way. It sits north of a 370-strong housing scheme for which Goodman secured consent in 2014, which is now under construction.

Originally, the NHS Cheshire CCG had objected to the application on the grounds that there are already a number of care homes in the area, but it has now formally withdrawn the complaint following engagement with the applicant.

The scheme, which is being developed for Anavo Care is one of four live projects listed on Liberty Care’s website, along with projects in Winsford, Tarporley and Whitchurch.

Cheshire East’s committee will also hear plans for a two-building office scheme in Goostrey, which has attracted an objection from Jodrell Bank and is recommended for refusal. The proposal is for two single-storey buildings on a section of field, accessed from Main Road, served by 15 car parking spaces.

Applicant Henderson Homes had in 2017 tried to get permission for a small scale housing scheme on the site in a scheme designed by Calderpeel, but was refused, and also lost at appeal in 2019.
