Create begins £7m Blackpool hotel extension

Sector specialist Create Developments has started work adding 74 bedrooms to the Hampton by Hilton on South Shore.

Sister company Create Construction is the main contractor for the project.

The hotel was delivered by Create in summer 2018, and at present comprises 130 bedrooms, a fitness room, a business work zone, a reception area and a restaurant/bar.

The £7m extension will provide 74 more guest rooms and a larger and more efficient kitchen and breakfast area, along with flexible meeting and business spaces.

Create said that the extension will help satisfy increasing demand as conferencing facilities in the town are improved and extended. The Winter Gardens is due to host the Conservatives’ spring forum in 2022, the first time the party has used the town since 2007.

Neil Holland, Create’s developments manager, said: “The extended capacity and improved facilities at The Hampton By Hilton in Blackpool will help to support the growth and regeneration of the town in both its tourist and business trade, especially after the pandemic and we are so proud to be playing a part in the iconic town’s development and future success.”

Graham Dodd, managing director of development, UK & Ireland for Hilton, added: “After opening three years ago, it’s great to see that Hampton by Hilton Blackpool’s success is already prompting significant expansion.

“We are excited to develop our presence in one of the UK’s most popular tourist resorts and look forward to welcoming even more of Blackpool’s more than 18m yearly visitors.”

Create Developments has also this year secured consent, following a redesign, to build a 147-bedroom Hampton by Hilton in Stretford, and has also now exchanged contracts with Stockport Council to deliver a hotel of the same brand next to the Redrock town centre leisure complex.

Create Construction is due to start this week on what is estimated as a 53-week build project.
