Countryside wins consent for Bamber Bridge mill site

The housebuilder has been granted planning permission by South Ribble Council to build 188 homes on the site of the former Wesley Street Mill in Bamber Bridge.

Ian Simpson, land director at Countryside, said: “Our aim is to transform this brownfield site with high quality homes that are both affordable and available for a wide range of people. We have developed a successful partnership model, working with registered social landlords, private rental sector specialist Sigma and local communities to create vibrant, mixed tenure neighbourhoods.

“We understand and appreciate the heritage of this site but also the issues the local community has faced with a lack of progress on its redevelopment. Our partnership model enables us to build quickly and our approach to placemaking will see the rapid emergence of an attractive development.”

The plans include a mix of two, three and four bed homes available for sale and private or social rent. Countryside plan to start on site as soon as possible.

Outline consent was granted to Isle of Man-based developer Gorrie in May 2013 for a scheme of up to 200 houses at the site.
