Countryside presses ahead with Moreton homes
The housebuilder has announced its intention to demolish the former family centre off Pasture Road in Wirral, part of plan to redevelop a wider 7.4-acre site approved two years ago.
Countryside, part of Vistry Group, is in line to acquire the part of the site earmarked for residential from Wirral Growth Company in September.
Countryside would bring home 45 homes under plans that have already been given the go-ahead.
WGC, the joint venture between the council and Muse, secured approval for a hybrid application in 2022 which proposed a Lidl supermarket on one part of the site and 45 homes and an 80-bedroom extra care development on another.
Savills is advising Countryside on its plans and Urban Regen has been appointed to carry out the demolition work.
Wirral Council’s regeneration department has come under fire in recent weeks.
A letter signed by Peel Waters, a local MP and a former council employee voiced concerns about the authority’s attitude to major projects.
Prior to that, Marc Cole, the authority’s interim regen director resigned in July after only a few months in the job.
The Family Centre is an eyesore and needs to go, a new supermarket will brighten up this location and new homes plus a care centre will be beneficial.
The proximity to bus routes and Merseyrail station will be an added benefit.
