Conwy rejects 277-home development
The local authority’s planning committee voted to refuse the application on the grounds of additional pressure on local schools and congestion.
Proposed on a plot off St George Road in Abergele, the scheme would comprise a mixture of detached, semi-detached, and terraced residences to provide open market, discounted sale, and social rented housing.
Plans were submitted to Conwy County Council by Nexus Planning on behalf of Countryside Partnerships and applicant Mr A Clarke.
Of the 277 properties, 118 homes would be delivered for market rate sale, in a mix of 14 two-, 55 three-, and 49 four-bedroom houses.
For discounted market sale, 28 properties are proposed across a mix of 16 two- and 12 three-bedroom homes.
These properties would then be transferred to housing association Wales & West Housing upon completion.
Rounding of the scheme would be 131 units for social rent, across 8 two-, 49 three-, and 24 four-bedroom houses.

The 24-acre site is split between two parcels and would feature a neighbourhood amenity space, an equipped children’s play space, and an informal play space.
Each of the two-bedroom homes would have two parking spaces, and the larger homes will offer three parking spots, according to proposals.
The project team includes Curtins, Urban Green, LK Group, WaterCo, Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust, Cadnant Planning, LRA, and Wales & West Housing.
