Conwy agrees to 128 affordable homes

The 12.5-acre former Interleisure site off Towyn Road in Pensarn, a suburb of Abergele, has been earmarked for the development.

Conwy Council’s planning committee signed off the project from housing association Cartrefi Conwy at its meeting on Wednesday – a decision that was in line with officer recommendation. The scheme would deliver 128 homes, all of which would be designated affordable. Of those 128, 32 would be one-bedroom homes, 42 would be two-bedroom properties, 40 would have three bedrooms, 12 would have four, and two would have five.

Each of the homes would have at least one parking space, with 17 additional visitor spaces also on site. That would deliver a total of 240 parking spaces.

The project also includes more than three acres of open space.

Historically the site was previously occupied by the Pensarn Children’s Camp which was demolished by the end of the 1970s.

It is bordered by a railway, coastal path, and sea defences along the northern boundary, and Towyn Road along the southern boundary. The project includes the creation of an access point to Towyn Road via a T-junction to be formed to the north of the site entrance.

The project team for the development features PLP, Mono Civil Design Consultants, Barnes Walker, and EDC.
