Consultation underway for new national park in Wales
Glyndŵr National Park would sit on 230,000 acres of land across Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Powys, and Wrexham according to its latest proposed map.
Natural Resources Wales is conducting a consultation to hear the public’s thoughts on where the national park will sit. The current proposal includes the Gronant and Talacre Dunes area and removes a section of Powys that had dominated the previous iteration.
The Labour Party had promised the creation of a fourth national park in Wales ahead of the 2021 Senedd election. Last year, the government appointed Gillespies to work with Countryscape, Fiona Fyfe Associates, and Natural Resources Wales to find the perfect spot for the park.
The park will be named after the Owain Glyndŵr, last Welsh prince of Wales who lived in the early 1400s. Legend has it that Glyndŵr is the Y Mab Darogan, who will one day return and liberate his people from the English.
Glyndŵr lived in Sycharth in Powys, which sits within the proposed boundaries.
The consultation for the proposed park boundaries concludes on 8 December. Have you say by going to mgynghori.cyfoethnaturiol.cymru/north-east-gogledd-ddwyrain/proposed-national-park-statutory-consultation-2025/. You can see the proposed borders in the image below.
