Consultation launches on former Stalybridge Clinic transformation

Millson Group’s proposals would see the regeneration of the Tameside site to create 78 homes, four commercial units, and a riverside walk.

Millson is seeking feedback on proposals for two apartment blocks to be created on the brownfield plot off Old Street.

The development consultants and architect was appointed by local landowner Gerard McDermott to review the potential for residential development in the area.

Current plans for the larger five-storey apartment block would see 54 one- and two- bedroom flats spread across the three upper floors, with private balconies proposed for the top floor.

Additionally, suggestions include three ground-floor units to be used for retail or hospitality, while the first floor would be used for cycle and general storage.

The smaller apartment block would reach four storeys, providing 24 homes, which feature a number of accessible flats.

Residents would have access to a fourth retail unit on the ground floor of the smaller block. Each unit would face the River Tame, providing outdoor seating in a new public realm space.

The site has been vacant since Stalybridge Clinic moved to Waterloo Road in 2004.

Landscape architect Plincke is working with Millson on the plans to transform the land, which include the creation of a riverside walk from the Stalybridge War Memorial to Tameside town centre.

A spokesperson from Millson said: “It is such an important part of Stalybridge’s regeneration plans.

“The potential to open a riverside walk is a brilliant opportunity and benefit of this development, it may also provide the ability to assist with the much-desired works to the war memorial,” they continued.

“It is great to work with a local landowner and business owner who has a passion to give back to the area.”

The online consultation will run until 1 May. The online feedback form can be found at stalybridgeclinic.com.

About time something happened on this eyesore areas Massive improvement needed good luck

By Alan Cookson

More for people to buy .when what we really need is more social housing to get some of the homeless off the streets and help families that can’t afford the ridiculous rents of private landlords. Also the last thing we need is more empty retail units the ones we have got can’t be filled.

By Anita Combs

But will they be affordable social housing which is what is needed. Forget the retail units. Others in the town lie empty. Along with other empty shops around town

Nice to see the Riverside Walk being opened up again. This has been sadly missed by residents for 18 years.
