Construction of Airbus wellbeing centre begins
The Occupational Health & Wellbeing Centre being built at the plane maker’s Broughton complex in North Wales was designed by Ellis Williams Architects.
The 40,000 sq ft centre is intended to promote health and wellbeing for both staff and the local community.
Planning approval was granted in December 2019 and contractor MPH Construction broke ground at the start of March on a plot previously used for playing sports.
The centre includes a gym, café and meeting rooms, replacing outdated facilities for Airbus Operations at the Airbus factory in North Wales.
Airbus is one of the largest employers in Wales, with 6,000 staff. The Broughton site assembles wings for the entire range of Airbus commercial aircraft, and as part of the response to the coronavirus pandemic is due to receive a shipment of 400,000 face masks on behalf of the NHS this week.
The facility will be located at the Chester Road entrance of the site as a gateway building. The café area will be highly visible from the main site entrance road to provide an active frontage.
