Construction awards runners and riders revealed
The shortlist has been announced for this year’s Regional Construction Awards. Now in its tenth year, the North West Regional Construction Awards are organised by the University of Salford and Constructing Excellence North West and supported by lead sponsor Hill Dickinson.
This year’s awards dinner will take place on 30 June at Liverpool’s Titantic Hotel, compered by broadcaster Louise Minchin.
Companies large and small from Merseyside, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Cumbria entered the awards, which recognise excellence among the region’s construction professionals and businesses.
Peter McDermott, professor of construction management at the University of Salford, and chairman of the judges, said: “These awards seek out the very best people, firms and projects, to share best practice and inspire others to better ways of working to create outstanding infrastructure for our region.
“Judges have been privileged to see the evidence of outstanding leadership, skills, collaboration and innovation. The message is loud and clear; the industry is in great shape to grasp the opportunities emerging around the Northern Powerhouse.”
Last year’s winners included Balfour Beatty for the Alexandra Park Restoration, Manchester; Kier for Project Arizona: The Walton Centre, Liverpool; and Mott Macdonald’s Jason Hyde was Young Achiever of the Year.
Winners will go forward to the National Constructing Excellence Awards to compete with the other English Regions and Wales in London later this year.

With regards to the Leigh guided busway – I suggest you look at commuters woes, the severe increase in congestion and journey time for commuters then you will see this project has been nothing but an extortionate, expensive mistake!!!
By Lindsay
Absolute nonsense Lindsay, the route has slashed peak time journey times and because high frequency bus lanes are a more efficient use of road space, it has increased capacity.
