Consent sought for Kendal battery storage facility

Harmony Energy has submitted an application for the development of a 9.5-acre battery storage facility in Kendal, to be known as Hutton Bess.

Plans submitted to Westmorland and Furness Council concern a 25-acre site south of Eskrigg End Road.

The proposed development will store energy for production on demand at peak times, with the capacity to power 600,000 houses for up to two hours, according to planning documents.

Components include 144 containerised battery energy storage units in pairs, 38 transformers, six high-voltage switchrooms, and a control room.

Access roads, landscaping, and security fencing are also included in the plans.

Pegasus Group assisted Harmony Energy with its application. The project team includes Gondolin Land & Water, E3P, Local Transport Projects, and SLR.

To view the application use the reference number 2024/2430/FPA on Westmorland and Furness Council.
