Consent near for student block and housing scheme
Cheshire West & Chester Council is set to approve 193 homes and accommodation for 376 students, while a proposal for 143 holiday lodges and a sailing facility has been recommended for refusal at a planning meeting next week.
Redrow Homes is proposing a development of 193 houses in a mix of between two to four bedrooms on Dunkirk Way, Backford, with 30% being classed as affordable. A minimum of two parking spaces would be provided for each home.
The 17-acre site is currently used for farming but also includes a disused petrol station, car wash and a derelict farmhouse.
At the same meeting on Tuesday the 4th of April, developer Morbaine’s plans to build an eight-storey block in Chester city centre are also being considered. Morbaine is a Cheshire-based developer who has worked predominantly on retail and commercial properties.
The proposal seeks permission for accommodation for 376 students, made up of 56 self-contained studio rooms with the remainder provided in communal flats. On the ground floor plans for social facilities include a cinema, games room and common room.
The building would be eight-storeys on the side next to Hoole Way, dropping down to seven-storeys next to Black Diamond Park. Two wings would extend to the rear from the main block. Day Architectural designed the building.
The development has been recommended for approval.
Meanwhile, an application from landowner, William Fergusson, to build 143 holiday lodges and a sailing clubhouse on Fourways Quarry in Oakmere is recommended for refusal. This is mainly due to the site being earmarked for water sports by the council with a decision that Fergusson’s plan does not concentrate enough on that aspect.
