Consent for £10m Altrincham resi

Silverlane Developments and Graystone Developments have secured planning permission for Bridgeworks, a 32-apartment project in Broadheath.

The £10m Altrincham scheme also features a 7,000 sq ft, five-storey office building, located off Manchester Road and next to the Bridgewater Canal.

Designed by Jeffrey Bell Architects, the development includes the conversion and extension of the former mill building to provide a mixture of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. Iceni is advising on planning.

Silverlane acquired the site, located just off Manchester Road in Broadheath, in 2022 from a pair of landowners. One was Peel L&P and the other was a private vendor.

“This has been a challenging project to date” said Steven Carnes, managing director at Silverlane. “Technical issues needed resolving and the building required a sympathetic approach in terms of its design.

“The creative reuse of Bridgeworks will enable a sustainable life for this important but neglected heritage asset, protecting and consolidating its future whilst providing a great environment for people to work and live”

Silverlane is currently in the final 12 months of its £60m Church Street place development in Eccles. The firm is also working with One Heritage on the latter’s plans for a 55-storey tower in Salford.

Good to see, it is overdue some TLC.

It is really great to see such an amazing building being brought back into use and being re developed. Liverpool had a number of very similar buildings at Dukes Dock on the Liverpool Waterfront which were once owned by the Duke of Bridgewater. Sadly these have long since been pulled down in the name of ‘progress’. If they were still up they too would have made brilliant waterfront homes which could have even had parking for a narrow boat or two under the the arches! Well done to all for taking this development on.
