Conlon wins £1.3m school contract

Preston-based Conlon Construction has been appointed for a £1.3m refurbishment and extension at Tyldesley County Primary School in Wigan.

As well as extending the school, located on Ennerdale Road, by 6,996 sq ft, Conlon is converting the staff room into a food technology suite and transforming a community room into an upgraded staff area.

Nursery and reception classrooms will also be refurbished, as well as completion of associated ground works.

Conlon has previously worked on two other school projects for Wigan Council including Platt Bridge Community School and Newbridge School.

Michael Conlon, construction director, said: "It is always a challenge when we are working in a live school environment, but we always do our bit to educate pupils on the dangers of playing on or near construction sites as well as helping them learn about the work which is going on at their school."

Conlon Construction started on site on 11 January this year and expects work to be completed by the end of August in time for the 2012 academic year.
