What keeps you awake at night?
A bit like Tiger, there are pressing matters that keep me from sleep…
1) Does the Queen ever regret granting city status to Preston at the turn of the millennium? 2010 will be a great year for Lancashire, thanks largely to good work in Blackpool, Pennine Lancashire and the border town of Bury. But wasn't Preston the 'central Lancashire city region' at the heart of NWDA policy? So much for policy.
2) Was Robert Hough having a laugh in his first NWDA board meeting as chairman, held in September: Item "112/03: Action points and matters arising…Robert Hough reminded the Board of the need to declare specific interests and that this was over and above any General Notifications." A cheeky wink at the critics who claimed he was too conflicted to be chairmen given his directorship of Peel, which owns more assets in the region – and fights more planning battles – than any other developer? Hough went on to call for more debate over funding decisions and more strategy discussion at board level. What did the board do before?
3) Last but not least, this week's insomnia is really down to excitement at the biggest day in the history of the modern Liverpool. Habitat reopens today, 2 December, after more than a decade out of the city. Hard to believe it was in St John's shopping centre before. Long may it stay in its new home in Liverpool One.
I think Tiger has a lot more on his plate but you’ve raised some interesting points there Mr Unger. What’s the odds on Mr Woods still winning the Masters before the decision over Preston’s status is overturned? Much better odds I think.
