Co-op masterplan finalists unveiled

A shortlist of four architects has been drawn up to masterplan the Co-operative Group's headquarters site in Manchester.

The finalists in the design competition are:

  • Heneghan Peng
  • BDP
  • Arup
  • KPF

The 20-acre site around Corporation Street houses 3,000 Co-op staff, but the group wants to redevelop the area and move to a new 200,000 sq ft headquarters. The new HQ could be in Manchester city centre or another Greater Manchester borough.

Lynda Shillaw, managing director of Co-Op's property arm, said: "The finalists now have the exacting task of putting together commercially viable plans for the site, which will regenerate the area and enable the group to maximise its commercial value.

"We are particularly keen to ensure that the development is built to exacting environmental standards."

The winner is due to be announced in March.
