Clearance work due for next phase of Circle Square
Demolition contractor Thompsons of Prudhoe is due to complete the removal of Armstrong House and the Mancunian Way spur within Circle Square by the end of the year, clearing space for a hybrid hotel and multi-storey car park.
Circle Square is the large-scale £750m redevelopment of the former BBC site on Manchester’s Oxford Road, being brought forward in a joint venture between Bruntwood and Select Property Group. The first buildings on the site are nearing completion, and will deliver homes under Select’s student accommodation Vita brand.
Other elements due to be built out on the site include offices, and retail and leisure units.
Planning permission was granted almost a year ago to Bruntwood for the development of a distinctive mixed-use block towards the rear of the site, near to Mancunian Way. The 21-storey building, designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley, will deliver 150 hotel bedrooms, 1,100 car parking spaces, and 2,800 sq ft of retail.
Bruntwood and Thompsons have submitted a demolition application to Manchester City Council, targeting a completion of the works by the end of this year.
•••I absolutely love the concept and design of this building. It’s aesthetically beautiful to look at and will occupy a good position next to the elevated part of the Mancunian Way. It will surely become an iconic building for Manchester.

Individually the elements are interesting, together I think they look pants.
