CLA Cheshire appoints chairman
The Cheshire branch of the CLA, which represents landowners, farmers and rural businesses, has elected Edward Clark as its new chairman.
Clark was the third generation to run his family business, Denton Clark, before it merged with consultancy Fisher German in 2012. He is a partner and specialises in rural consultancy, planning and development work.
Formed in 1907, the CLA safeguards the interests of those responsible for land, property and business in rural England and Wales. Its role includes lobbying on members' behalf in Westminster and Brussels.
Clark said: "With ever increasing pressures on landowners and farmers both from the market and EU and national legislation the CLA has a key role to play in protecting property rights and in assisting rural businesses to maintain a strong rural economy.
"There are significant challenges ahead, not least HS2, which will have a major impact in Cheshire. The work of the CLA, both locally and nationally, to ensure fair and reasonable compensation for all landowners affected by the scheme will be enormously valuable."
