Chester Uni seeks contractors for £5m teaching block

Chester University has published a tender for a £5m construction contract to replace the vacant de Bunsen Centre on Parkgate Road.

The building housed Student Union staff until it was vacated in autumn 2007 and has remained vacant since then.

The new building will serve the Departments of Law, Careers, Computer Science, History, Archaeology, Business as well as the Chaplaincy, Graduation and Knowledge Transfer offices.

The four-storey, 36,000 sq ft building will have a net teaching area of 24,000 sq ft.

The university said there have been preliminary discussions with the local planning authority in respect of the plan.

The completed building must achieve a minimum BREEAM rating of 'very good'.

Deadline for submission of interest is 27 January.
