Chester site being considered for housing development

Meadow Vale Foods has submitted planning for housing to be built at its Chester premises.

The site on Wrexham Road in Malpas is currently used as its main offices and depot.

The frozen food production and distribution company, which is relocating, said it is proposing to demolish the office and cold store building and erect four new houses.

The existing office building would also be used to be converted into residential.

Two of the homes will include five bedrooms, with the other two including four bedrooms. The conversion would create a five bedroom property.

Councillors at Malpas Parish Council are concerned about highway access and increased traffic on Wrexham Road, but believe a broader selection of properties would be more in keeping with the village and consistent with local need.

Planning officers suggest a financial payment of £50,000 should be secured through a legal agreement in place of any affordable housing being provided.

Recommending the application should be approved, planning officers believe the reduction in the number of heavy goods vehicles will provide environmental benefits.

The application is being considered by the planning board at a meeting tomorrow at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Chester at 10.30am.
