Cheshire & Warrington LEP actions Covid recovery plan

The local enterprise partnership has set out a vision to create jobs and build a fairer, greener economy, with the first step being the launch of a growth commission to oversee its delivery.

The Cheshire & Warrington Sustainable and Inclusive Growth Commission is to be chaired by Sam Corcoran, leader of Cheshire East Council, and Robert Davis, chief executive of EA Technology.

The steering group – which will include representatives from all three authorities in the region, including Cheshire West and Chester, and Warrington councils, as well as other public, private and third sector experts – will act as a catalyst for and advise on delivery of the new vision, according to the LEP.

It will explore a range of issues such as how to develop the decarbonising industry; how to improve communities’ access to quality training and skills development to improve job prospects and income levels; how to address fuel and transport poverty, overcome digital exclusion; improve physical and mental health, and better manage land and natural resources across the area.

The full membership of the commission will be announced shortly. It will aim to take evidence from residents, businesses, academics, interest groups and young people, to give a voice to people on the sustainable growth of their region.

Committee co-chair Corcoran said: “I look forward to working with our partners to develop and deliver robust proposals to deliver both a sustainable and inclusive economy.

“This is particularly important as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to have a profound economic impact across Cheshire East. This vision emboldens our focus on creating plentiful opportunities for all generations, tackling environmental challenges and to promote equality and wellbeing.”
