Castle Street hotel redevelopment begins

Hotel Land & Development has started construction on a £6.5m hotel in central Liverpool.

Located in the listed Queen building, the facility will be managed by hotel chain Tune Hotels. Having stripped out the property, HLD is now converting the six-storey, 35,000 sq ft building into a 100-bedroom hotel.

Construction is expected to take 10 months with the opening scheduled for late July 2015.

Tune Hotels awarded HLD the Liverpool contract after working with the developer in Newcastle on a £8m refurbishment project.

HLD is based in Manchester and is headed up by directors Jonathan Conway and Martin Jackson.

Mitul Lakhani, chief financial officer at Tune Hotels said: "We've partnered with HLD as it has a proven track record of delivering hotels in city centre sites and the expertise to work in historic buildings, ensuring that any refurbishments are carried out sensitively and to the high standard we expect."

The Liverpool hotel will be Tune's eighth in the UK as it seeks to expand its value concept across major business cities. Rooms are available from £15 a night.

Bit concerning that they have ‘stripped out’ the property when it is listed – hope its not the original features…………….

Good to see this building being brought back into full use. Great Hotel Brand as well.. just what the City needs.
