Canning O’Neill wins Edgar Wood instruction

Agent Canning O’Neill has been appointed to market the 6,000 sq ft Edgar Wood building in Manchester’s Victoria Park.

Designed by the renowned Arts & Crafts architect it is now named after, the building was completed for the First Church of Christ Scientist in 1903. Located just off the A34, the property is close to the University of Manchester campus and the complex of NHS hospitals on Oxford Road.

Mark Canning, director at Canning O’Neill, sole agents for the scheme, said: “Seldom does a building with such a history become available. It was formerly used as an office but the scheme’s configuration lends itself to a variety of uses from a restaurant and wedding venue to a clinic, banqueting hall or of course a place of worship.”

Subject to planning, the building could also be extended, Canning added.

A spokesman for JPS Real Estate, which owns the building, said: “This is a truly iconic building in every sense of the word. The building still attracts a huge amount of interest and we believe that this opportunity will appeal to a wide range of organisations that are looking to relocate to somewhere with a slightly different offer.”
