Buyer swoops for Clatterbridge cladding firm
McMullen Facades has been bought out of administration by Hertfordshire-based construction group JRL.
The business, which as recently as October won an £11m contract to work with main contractor Laing O’Rourke on a cladding system for Clatterbridge Cancer Centre’s new Liverpool hospital, had been part of the Lakesmere Group, which went into administration earlier this month.
On Monday McMullen followed the parent business into administration, but has been swiftly picked up by JRL, a multi-services business primarily concerned with reinforced concrete frames, and also known for its expertise in high-rise construction.
Peter Allen, joint administrator and partner at Deloitte said: “We are delighted to have concluded the successful sale of McMullen, retaining all 270 jobs. McMullen remains a profitable business that unfortunately was affected by cash flow issues in the wider Lakesmere group. We wish it every success for the future.”
A JRL spokesman said: “The acquisition of McMullen gives us the capability to offer a ‘structure and envelope’ package. This will give clients a single point of contact to get a watertight building, whilst allowing savings on preliminaries, improved coordination, better programme and risk management benefits.”
McMullen’s main office and factory are in Northern Ireland, with a function in Winchester.
