Business case sign-off for £19.1m Anglesey freeport scheme
The creation of 72,000 sq ft of employment space on the island has taken a step closer.
Backed by a combined £7.5m from the £120m North Wales Growth Deal and the Anglesey Freeport Seed Capital fund from the UK and Welsh government, the project can now advance to the next stage following business case sign off.
The remainder of the funding required for the £19.1m project would be provided by the private sector.
The approval of the scheme puts the Isle of Anglesey County Council in pole position to acquire the former Eastman Peboc site and deliver a cluster of buildings within the Anglesey freeport zone.
It is estimated the project could generate £65.4m for the local economy by 2036.
Cllr Jason McLellan, lead member for Ambition North Wales’s land and property programme, said: “These proposals would bring this site back into use, delivering real benefits for Llangefni and the wider region.
“With Growth Deal support, this former industrial site can be revitalised to create good-quality jobs. By improving infrastructure, adopting sustainable design, and aligning with Freeport plans, the project will strengthen the local economy and reinforce Anglesey as a location for business and innovation.”

With all this activity which is planned for Anglesey surly a third crossing for the island is a must, as we have seen of late one bridge out of commission caused a lot of disruption, with more traffic coming to the island I think new businesses would really look at the infrastructure to access the island without any problems.
