Bury council backs HMG plans

Hollins Murray Group, based in Altrincham, has been granted planning permission to redevelop Longfield Shopping Centre on Bury New Road, Prestwich.

The developer plans an anchor 60,000 sq ft retail store alongside smaller shops, a 70-bed hotel, offices, restaurants and up to 36 flats. The development area covers seven acres of Prestwich town centre. The existing shopping centre and library will be demolished to make way for the scheme. The library would be rebuilt with a multi-storey car park alongside.

Manchester-based HOW Planning and Craig Foster Architects of Liverpool advised Hollins Murray.

John Suckley, principal at HOW Planning, said: "The current shopping centre is outdated and the scheme will provide the people of Prestwich with a modern and attractive town centre."
