Burnham commits to GMSF re-write at manifesto launch

Labour’s candidate was this morning launching his manifesto for Greater Manchester at the Sharp Project digital media centre in Manchester as the election race gathers pace ahead of polling day on 4 May.
Among the pledges made during his speech were:
- Re-write the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework “to prioritise people, housing and green space”
- Five-point plan to protect air quality including saving Green Belt and using new powers over bus services to make them cleaner
- “New contract with business”, backing those that commit to living wage
- End rough sleeping in Greater Manchester by 2020
- “Summit” events in year one around digital skills and green agenda
The first term of the mayoralty is due to last for only three years, not giving long for bold aims and objectives to be met.
Cllr Sean Anstee, Conservative candidate and Burnham’s closest rival, is expected to launch his manifesto early next week. Anstee is currently attending MIPIM in Cannes to promote investment opportunities in Trafford as leader of the local authority.
Sort the transport out Andy and make Metrolink accountable for their inability to keep passengers safe from yobbish behaviour.

And for this reason alone I won’t vote for him. Politicking about with housing supply is ridiculous, when will our politicians grow out of this pandering to NIMBYs?

What also really needs to be sorted out within the city centre is the problem of littering. Enforcement to regulate this visual eyesore or educational programs for school children should be made a top priority. Also, painting the old bridges at the northern gateway near the new Greengate developments wouldn’t go amiss. They are currently in a less then pristine state if truth be told and a lick of paint can go a long way.

Agree with NC. If there was a massive building plan on Green belt in Wythenshawe,I doubt there would be a change of policy. We must keep the Tories in High Lane and Bowdon happy though Andy?
