Bridgewater Way improvements continue

Peel Group has partly funded a renovation of another stretch of the towpath along the Bridgewater Canal in Salford, enabling uninterrupted access from the A57 Liverpool Road to Worsley Village.

This phase of Bridgewater Way is 1.4 kilometres in length between Monton and Worsley Village. The work also adds to 23 kilometres of the Bridgewater Way completed in Eccles, Leigh, Runcorn and Trafford which; around one third of the total 65 kilometres length of the Bridgewater Canal.

The scheme in Salford is funded by canal owners, Peel, the Bridgewater Canal Trust, Salford City Council, and Salford West.

Louise Morrissey, director of land and planning at Peel, said: "We are very happy to open this section in Worsley at a momentous time in the Bridgewater Canal's history. This year sees the 250th anniversary of the historic canal and it is great news that Bridgewater Way work is continuing along the length of the canal to create a pleasant environment for all to enjoy this important piece of North West history for many years to come."
