Breck seals consent for Cadishead housing
It is a case of third time lucky for the scheme, which failed to progress under two previous developers.
Breck Homes has been granted planning permission by Salford City Council to build 49 houses on the two-acre plot off Green Lane in Cadishead.
The site, previously occupied by the Lion pub, will be home to a 100% affordable scheme that will be operated by ForHousing.
The housing mix features houses, apartments, and maisonettes offering between one and four bedrooms.
In 2024, McCarthy Stone was refused consent for a 51-apartment retirement scheme on the same site. Salford City Council’s planners deemed the project “overbearing and oppressive”.
McCarthy Stone had picked up the site following the collapse of Lane End Developments in 2023, which had secured consent for 58 apartments two years earlier.

Phil Dolan, North West managing director at Breck Homes said construction could begin in June.
“The plans will deliver 48 affordable homes alongside new public space and landscaping, bringing a long-vacant brownfield site back into use in an area where there is clear demand for high-quality affordable housing,” he said.
“Previous developers have been unable to gain planning approval at Green Lane, so this decision highlights Breck’s collaborative approach and commitment to working in partnership with local authorities, stakeholders and communities to bring forward much-needed new homes.”
Clare Tostevin, executive director of investment and growth at ForHousing, said: “Starting the works at Green Lane brings an exciting opportunity for the community of Cadishead, and we are proud to be working with our partners to create multiple options of affordable, quality homes in the area.”
