Breck Homes at the double in Crewe
The housebuilder wants to deliver 140 affordable homes across two schemes, with 85 plotted off Broughton Road and a further 55 in Winterley.
Both planning applications have now been validated by Cheshire East Council. Mosaic Town Planning is advising on planning for both schemes.
The 55-home project put forward for land behind and including 481 Crewe Road, Winterley would see housing developed on a currently underused agricultural plot.
Registered provider Weaver Housing Trust will take over the scheme once built. Miler Goodall and Prime Transport Planning are on the professional team.

As set out in the design & access statement, much of the land around Winterley and neighbour Haslington has historically been used as grazing land for dairy herds, and land uses close to this site are both residential and agricultural – in the immediate area, there are strips of housing along the main road.
There will be six one-beds, 21 two-beds, 22 three-beds and six four-beds. Twelve homes are for shared ownership, the rest for social rent.
There will be around 37,000 sq ft of open space as part of the project. Within the scheme, one- and two-bed maisonettes will have a parking space each, rising to two for two- and three-bed homes and four for the four-beds, meaning a total of 108 spots.
The application for land west of Broughton Road is for development on the northern edge of existing Crewe housing areas, before the road heads out to Middlewich and Winsford. Again an agricultural site, the plot is bordered by railway lines to one side and Broughton Road housing on the other.
Urban Green is advising, along with Townsend Water Engineering, IGE and Prime.
Home provision breaks down as follows: 61 houses, 10 ground-floor access maisonettes, 10 first-floor maisonettes, and four bungalows. In all, there will be 18 one-beds, 29 two-beds, 26 three-beds and 12 four-bedroom properties.
Although the site is designated as open countryside, Cheshire East acknowledges that it no longer performs that function, being largely surrounded by development – in addition, the location is regarded as highly sustainable due to existing transport links.
A registered provider will take on the scheme once built.
Each house will have a rear garden, and two public open spaces areas are included, one of them a locally equipped area of play (LEAP).
