Bloor tastes success in Stockport

The housebuilder is to deliver 202 homes as part of the controversial £45m redevelopment of specialist school the Seashell Trust in Heald Green, after Stockport Council voted unanimously in favour of the project.

Bloor Homes’ scheme is the first residential phase of the project that could see 325 properties delivered in total.

The homes are proposed for land east of Wilmslow Road, with Bruntwood Hall Brook running north to south towards its eastern boundary.

Plans include 26 two-bedroom houses, 79 three-bedroom houses and 97 four-bedroom houses. A community orchard is planned within the open space.

A total of 57 of the houses are earmarked as affordable: 29 rented and 28 on shared ownership. The land is undeveloped open pasture, with the Seashell Trust site to the south.

The proposal includes the spine road extension that will enable phase two.

Kate Mclean, planning director at Bloor Homes, said: “Receiving planning permission unanimously for what was historically such a controversial proposal is a reflection of the work we’ve done in collaboration with officers and members over the last few months.

“We look forward to making a start on site and continuing our positive working relationship with the community.”

The Seashell Trust won consent to build a new school at its Stanley Road site following a public inquiry last year.

The school project is to be part-funded by the sale of green belt land owned by the trust to Bloor Homes.
