Bloor seeks views on 200-home Chester scheme
The housebuilder’s plans for a sustainable community in Christleton are being put to locals to inform a planning application for the 25-acre site, which Bloor hopes to submit later this year.
Bloor is set to designate 45% of the neighbourhood as affordable via a mix of tenures, and will provide 6.2 acres of publicly accessible green parkland.
The consultation process will run from today to 11 July, with the housebuilder aiming to submit plans to Cheshire West and Chester Council later this year.
Plans also indicate that access to the historic ‘fountain of Christleton’ – now known as Abbots Well, a pond which once provided water to Chester Cathedral – will be opened up, forming a central focal point for the neighbourhood.
It is expected that the development would generate a local economic boost of £2m, while creating 300 construction jobs during its build, according to Bloor.

Toby Hudson, strategic land director, Bloor Homes, said the development “truly meets the needs of the local community”, adding the location “offers so much in terms of access to green space”, let alone its proximity to Chester city centre and nearby Christleton village.
He continued: “Nearly half of the homes will be affordable, providing real housing choice for all walks of life – whether that’s for people to get onto or move up the housing ladder, someone looking to start a family, enjoy their own space, or a property to downsize to.

“As we shape our proposals, we’re keen to hear from the community about how we can best make this development benefit Chester.”
The site is within walking distance to several local schools, along with shops and amenities on Whitchurch Road and at the nearby Caldy Valley Retail Park.
Active travel routes leading into Chester city centre would be established along existing routes and the canal towpath.
The housebuilder is active within the North West. In March, plans were submitted for a mega 675-home scheme on 80 acres in Heald Green, Stockport, while Sandbach is preparing for an additional 325 Bloor-developed homes.
Working on the scheme are Lichfields, Fabrik, Curtins, and Tyler Grange.
Bloor Homes is to host a drop-in event on Tuesday 1 July at 3pm-7pm at the Mercure Abbots Well, where the team will answer questions and discuss any concerns.
Chester desperately needs more housing, but please can we have something more architecturally interesting/progressive than these dreary visuals which look like a Bovis estate from 1989

Love the renderings. Hide the actual houses behind trees off in the distance so nobody can actually see what they look like.

The site is in walking distance to several oversubscribed schools, two major roads that are generally congested, and if it’s off the A41 as described will be backing onto a busy railway line. So there’s your amenity, air quality, noise, and traffic problems – then factor in that none of that ‘economic boost’ will actually be felt locally (where is the local ‘economic boost’ from the Kings Moat sprawl ? That’s right, in China with the machinery, tools, and material suppliers. They did a number on the local drains dumping their waste into them and creating flooding, so I suppose they’ve made work for some contractors that way) – and what you have is more unsustainable greenfield sprawl that does nothing for anyone. If CWAC are so desperate for revenues they’d be better taxing the student slums, holiday lets, and HMOs – get council tax onto the owners if the tenants are exempt.

This is a ridiculous proposal, to add even more traffic to the A41
