Blackpool’s Winter Gardens hotel vision edges closer

C1 Capital and Mottram Estates have received planning approval for a 226-bedroom, dual-branded aparthotel next to the historic venue.

Blackpool Council’s planning committee voted to approve the project last night, bringing the long-awaited scheme closer to reality.

The surface car park on the corner of Leopold Grove and Adelaide Street has been earmarked for redevelopment into a hotel to support the Winter Gardens, located close by.

This need has become even more pressing following the completion of the 66,000 sq ft Winter Gardens conference centre. However, various iterations of the project have come and gone over the years.

Blackpool Council granted developer Kewdeal outline consent for a 160-bedroom hotel in 2021 before acquiring the site itself the following year.

The council has been in discussions with C1 and Mottram since last year in a bid to bring the project to life.

C1 and Mottram’s scheme features more rooms and fewer car parking spaces than the previously approved development.

The developers want to deliver 158 typical hotel bedrooms under one brand and 86 self-contained studios and 22 self-contained one-bed apartments under another brand.

Kewdeal’s two-storey, 94-space car park has been removed. The updated scheme proposes 10 parking spaces.

Studio Moren is the architect and Gerald Eve is advising on planning.
