Blackpool to progress long-awaited Winter Gardens hotel

Plans put forward by C1 Capital and Mottram Estates could be approved next week, paving the way for the construction of a 226-bedroom aparthotel.

The surface car park on the corner of Leopold Grove and Adelaide Street has long been earmarked for redevelopment into a hotel to support the Winter Gardens, located close by.

This need has since heightened following the completion of the 66,000 sq ft Winter Gardens conference centre. However, various iterations of the project have come and gone over the years.

Most recently, Blackpool Council granted developer Kewdeal outline consent for a 160-bedroom hotel in 2021 before acquiring the site itself the following year.

The council has been in discussions with C1 and Mottram since last year in a bid to bring the project to life.

The scheme up for determination next week features more rooms and fewer car parking spaces than the previously approved development.

C1 and Mottram want to deliver 158 typical hotel bedrooms under one brand and 86 self-contained studios and 22 self-contained one-bed apartments under another brand.

Kewdeal’s two-storey, 94-space car park has been removed. The updated scheme proposes 10 parking spaces.

Studio Moren is the architect and Gerald Eve is advising on planning.
