Blackpool plots sports scheme on stalled resi site
Land off Central Drive due to house future phases of Hollinwood Homes’ £50m Foxhall Village could be redeveloped into community sports pitches by Blackpool Football Club to regenerate the Revoe area of the town.
Revoe Sports Village was one of seven schemes allocated a share of Blackpool’s £39.5m Towns Fund award.
The project is proposed on land between Blackpool FC’s Bloomfield Road stadium and the completed part of Foxhall Village south of Rigby Road.
Hollinwood Homes, part of the wider Marcus Worthington Group, appointed administrators in 2019 having completed less than half of the 400 homes it proposed.
Blackpool Council is working up a business case for the sports village project, which has been allocated £5.5m of Government funding, and falls into the Southern Gateway element of the wider Revoe masterplan.
Plans for the Southern Gateway also feature a replacement east stand at Bloomfield Road, as well as commercial, retail and residential elements.
In addition, the demolition of existing, poor quality housing and light industrial sites could allow the football club to create a performance and conference building running the length of the east stand and fronting Central Drive, according to the masterplan.
A new-build primary school on land abutting Revoe Park is also outlined in the masterplan.
This has got too good news for Blackpool Football Club and the whole Foxhall area.
