Blackpool FC progresses training ground plans

The Championship club has launched a consultation on proposals for a nearly 100-acre facility off Garstang Road.

In May, Blackpool FC agreed a land deal to acquire the site, which borders the Grange Park Estate and Baines School.

The club had considered 30 possible locations for a new training ground in and around Blackpool in a bid to relocate from its outdated Squires Gate complex.

Designed by AFL Architects, the proposed training ground is to feature eight full-size pitches, a half-size indoor pitch, a 9v9 pitch, goalkeeper training zones, as well as an eco-friendly training centre with classrooms, medical areas, office space and a gym.

The new facility will see Blackpool’s senior side team and academy squad train at the same facility for the first time in the club’s history.

The consultation on the proposals will run until 5 August. A planning application for the project is due to be submitted later this year.

Walker Sime is the project manager on the scheme.

We need to keep all the farm land we have. Not only do we need self sufficiency in power generation, we need it just as importantly in food production. Doesn’t make sense to build on precious farm land.
