The Blackpool delegation is heading to Cannes to promote the town as a whole, as well as highlighting major development opportunities at Blackpool Central – a £300m leisure-ked regeneration project – and the 50-acre Silicon Sands data centre campus at Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone.
Blackpool has become the latest Northern council to sign up as part of Place North’s MIPIM delegation. The others are Salford City Council, Wigan Council, Bolton Council, and Trafford Council.
Cllr Lynn Williams, Leader of Blackpool Council said: “Our £2bn growth and prosperity programme in Blackpool is all about growing our local economy, creating jobs for local people and improving where we live.
“Most of that investment so far has come from the council making secure investments in infrastructure, while we’ve also been very successful at attracting government funding.
“To continue the level of regeneration we need, we have to promote Blackpool for international investments from the private sector.”
Williams added that MIPIM is a “fantastic opportunity” to market Blackpool as much more than a tourist destination.
“We have the workforce, skills provision, and ambition to support investment across a range of sectors.
“We’re pleased to be working with Place North again, who have been fantastic supporters and share our passion for commercial property regeneration in Blackpool.”
Dino Moutsopoulos, managing partner at Place North, said: “Blackpool is one of Lancashire’s and the North West’s leading towns, run by an ever more progressive council that has a strong vision of what is possible.
“I’m extremely pleased that Place North’s new MIPIM structure has enabled Blackpool to attend MIPIM next year.”
He added: “We look forward to working with the senior leaders to showcase the town’s development opportunities whilst raising the wider profile of Blackpool to the international investment community. Blackpool will join other progressive authorities as part of the Place North Delegation including Salford, Wigan, Trafford and Bolton.”
Place North’s MIPIM delegation is growing weekly and includes a mixture of local authorities, policy leaders, investors, engineers, solicitors, architects, and more. You can see the list of partners below.
