Blackburn publishes development manifesto
Around 80 sites for commercial and residential use have been identified by Blackburn with Darwen Council and are outlined on a new investment website.
The website – www.invest-blackburndarwen.org.uk – also includes details of commercial property lettings in Blackburn and Darwen and will feature housing development sites in the near future.
Aimed at prospective developers and businesses looking to expand or relocate, the website supports the council’s growth strategy to attract inward investment and increase employment opportunities and housing in the borough.
Following the adoption of its Local Plan in December last year, the council has identified 80 sites for commercial and housing development, with plans for 1m sq ft of commercial floor space by 2020 and 9,500 new homes by 2026.
The first of the commercial development opportunities to be advertised on the new website is the Wainwright Way Development Zone. There are six plots around Wainwright Way, the final link in Blackburn’s orbital route, which was completed in February this year as part of the £40m Pennine Reach transport scheme.
Cllr Phil Riley, executive member for regeneration, said: “We are undergoing a period of significant investment which is strengthening our position in the regional economy and creating the conditions for growth.
“We are way ahead of many other parts of the country in having an approved Local Plan, with a huge number of sites coming forward for development. It’s time to spread the word that we’re open for business, offering an excellent location in the heart of the North West and providing great value for money.”
