Bidding starts for Liverpool’s Municipal Buildings

A dozen developers have expressed interest in buying the historic Municipal Buildings from Liverpool City Council, following approval of plans to sell the civic landmark and vacate staff by next summer.

The council’s cabinet voted to offload the asset as part of a cost-cutting plan. Staff will be relocated by next June for the buyer to take vacant possession in July.

A spokesman for the council said a dozen expressions of interest had been received from a range of local and national developers.

A six-week marketing period began yesterday to try and find a buyer. The outcome will be reported to cabinet in due course.

The 1860s listed building totals 130,000 sq ft and is expected to attract hotel and residential developers.
